The plans called for cutting out and tracing the larger parts, or transferring the shape to the wood by punching through the paper with an awl. I devised a method using carbon paper and the dull back side of a razor knife as a scribe. This allowed me to very accurately mark the wood with the use of a ruler or a star wheel for the curves.\u00a0 (Thank you, sewing lady.)<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_196\" style=\"width: 594px\" the bit set a few thousandths of an inch shy of cutting through the wood.\u00a0 A razor knife was used to trim out the pieces from the sheet when all of the cutting was completed.<\/p>\n<p>I was concerned that it would be difficult to control the close tolerance using a router, but this method proved to be incredibly accurate and very easy to control.<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_203\" id=\"caption-attachment-205\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">One of the roughest router cuts before sanding<\/p><\/div>\n<p>It took very little planing and sanding to true the edges to the lines.<\/p>\n<p>Note: the small block plane in the background is one of my favorite tools, a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.amazon.com\/gp\/product\/B0026FBGR8\/ref=oh_aui_search_detailpage?ie=UTF8&amp;psc=1\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Japanese wood block plane<\/a>. It is adjusted by tapping on the end of the blade or on the block, and costs less than $10.<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_206\" style=\"width: 594px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><a href=\"https:\/\/teamloewen.com\/CocktailClass\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/07\/DSCN2540-e1546235088100.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-206\" class=\"wp-image-206 size-large\" src=\"https:\/\/teamloewen.com\/CocktailClass\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/07\/DSCN2540-1024x768.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"584\" height=\"438\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-206\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">I found this used Harbor Freight drum sander on Craigslist, a great tool for smoothing internal edges.<\/p><\/div>\n<div id=\"attachment_291\" style=\"width: 594px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><a href=\"https:\/\/teamloewen.com\/CocktailClass\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/07\/DSCN2541LimberHoles-e1545951407998.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-291\" class=\"wp-image-291 size-large\" src=\"https:\/\/teamloewen.com\/CocktailClass\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/07\/DSCN2541LimberHoles-1024x768.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"584\" height=\"438\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-291\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">I used a hole saw to cut a notch in the bottom of the bulkhead.<\/p><\/div>\n<p>The frames all have limber holes to allow water to flow to adjacent compartments above the boat bottom.\u00a0 I used a drill press and hole saw to form the cuts, making them slightly larger that specified for quick easy drainage.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The patterns for the 32 plywood piece parts were printed on full size paper sheets measuring 3&#8242; x 8&#8242;.
